Q. How did you get started writing?
I always did like to write to help calm my nerves. It started off as a hobby then I started writing for publication.

Q: Are you able to conduct a book tour or are you limited to interviews at this time?
I'll take e-mail & phone interviews. Watch for my tour listings.

Q: Have you ever written a novel before A Forward Motion?
A Forward Motion is actually the first book I wrote, but there is another novel and an essay collection.    I've been single minded and going at this over 15 years now. It requires determination and a lot of patients.

Q: What was the inspiration for A Forward Motion? And tell us about the new 'Rags To Riches' series you've created?
A Forward Motion started with wanting a historical tribute to my parents past and my own teen-age years. To keep from sounding like a history book, I scaled back and put more emphasis on the seventies.  About the series?   I love stories where people climb to the top & figure it's about time for a gritty inspirational genre like this.  Since grade school I’ve been reading the traditional romances of that time.  I was burned out and looking for something new.   I wanted the whole rhythm and tone to read completely different from any other book. I feel I accomplished that in A Forward Motion.

Q: The Way this story unfold may be confusing to some readers. Explain it from your point of view?
Danielle Alexander is reading a report in history class in a predominately white high school for exceptionally smart students.  Being one of the first African Americans to attend, Danielle feel it necessary to provide a little history lesson of her own.  This first scene set the pace for all that follow.  It creates a transition from the past to their here and now existence.  A coming-of-age story is in essence about witnessing the characters growth and how their individual experiences shape who they ultimately become.  Don’t expect this story to stay in one place for very long.  Part one is the high school years, part two the late college years.

Q: Is there a particular theme or message in your book?
The forward motion of life, and a level sense of existence.  I believe we can achieve that.  Its a conscious decision.

Q: What do you consider the most important issue, problem or question in your book?

People getting along with each other regardless of their race or any other differences.  Some of us are good at knit picking every little thing or going out of their way to demean others. Spite, revenge and envy rule some people.  But for every action there’s a reaction.  As a fiction writer I can rewrite the negatives and turn it into something positive.  That way maybe one day most of us will be ruled by love and acceptance.

Q: What tips would you give someone facing the same situation in your book?

There are a lot of situations being faced in this book.  The title is the answer to each one.  It amazes me how too many people waste so much time on nonsense, things that are totally irrelevant to moving forward with your life.   I’m mainly thinking about those who wallow in it and make it all of who they are.  You’re wasting your time and those around you.  If we’re standing still, we’ll always be facing that same situation until its a vicious circle. Or just a donut existence. Education and a variety of experiences teaches our mind to consider other possibilities.
